Bikram yoga was founded by Bikram Choudhury, a former Olympic weightlifter.

These yoga classes duration is about 90 minutes and goes through a series of 26 different poses.

This yoga’s trademark is the hot temperatures the yoga sessions are conducted in.

Temperatures can go up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit and the humidity is around 40 percent.

Bikram yoga is done in hot rooms because the heat will make your body more flexible.

So, it is not bad for the body. When you sweat profusely, your body will be flushing out toxins.

The Bikram sequence was designed by Bikram Choudhury with the supervision of his guru Bishnu Ghosh.

As therapy for a severe knee injury and Choudhury had incurred while weightlifting as a competitive yoga athlete in his teens.

When the program restored his ailing knee slowly and then improved his overall health tremendously.

Choudhury went on and started several schools in India and in Japan.

All of which offered to the students the therapeutic benefits of Bikram yoga.

When Choudhury finally arrived in America in 1973 and set up shop in Los Angeles.

Some of his earliest students were notable figures such as Shirley Maclaine, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and former US president Richard Nixon.

Despite the controversy that has surrounded Bikram these past few years.

The poses were chosen by Choudhury from classic Hatha poses.

And are designed to -systematically move fresh, oxygenated blood to 100 % of your body, to each organ, cell, and fiber.

You have to take some basic precautions before you decide to do hot yoga.

The most important thing is to drink lots of water in small intervals.

You must drink at least 16 ounces of water before you start and drink water every 15 minutes intervals throughout the session.

Drink at least 20 gms more water when you are doing this yoga.

Dress in chunky clothing to sweat your skin and prevent overheating.

You can suffer from the exhaustion of the heat if you feel dizzy, nauseated, weak, tired or as if you are indulging.

 Other symptoms of heat exhaustion include headache, confusion and a rapid heartbeat.

 Get out of there if you feel one of these symptoms and lie down in a cool room. Drink water and call a doctor if your symptoms do not go away.
